Vilhelm Moberg

(20 August 1898 - 8 August 1973) was a Swedish journalist, author, playwright, and historian. He is best known for his series "The Emigrants." The four books [The Emigrants, Unto a Good Land, The Settlers, and The Last Letter Home] published between 1949 and 1959, dealt with Swedish emigration to the United States in the 19th century. Moberg committed suicide by drowning following a long struggle with depression.
